Handbuilding Plates

Creating & Designing Handbuilt Plates

I create and design my pottery one piece at a time, using the beauty and influences from the nature that surrounds me here in the mountains of Vermont.

Raw clay is flattened manually with an old fashion oak rolling pin to shape, and pressed into wooden or bamboo molds. These I then trim, design and stamp, and carefully dry before the first firing. This initial firing stage is called a bisque fire and reaches 1300 degrees. It is followed by hand brushing glaze onto each piece using old world style Hake brushes with my own glaze combinations, and fired again to 2600 degrees before ready for shipping. This process produces pottery that is not only durable enough for every day use but also dishwasher safe, microwave safe, and lead and cadmium free.

  • Matching Servingware

Matching servingware to go with your dinnerware, a unique gift or as a standalone addition to your table. Several sizes of bowls and platters available. Check the in stock availability for ready to ship or inquire for a made to order piece.

  • Homemade Food on Handmade Plates

Enjoying meals off handmade plates is a different and special experience. Whether you make your meal from scratch or order it in, the feel of craftsmanship in each piece brings a special unity to the setting. As a mother of three boys it is important to me to introduce beauty and rustic craftsmanship combined with old world artistry but with the needed durability for modern every day functionality. This is why I select the safest on the market lead free, cadmium free glazes that also are dishwasher and microwave safe. Each piece is glazed to 2600° and also can be used in the oven. Personally I am still using the original dinnerware and servingware I created for my family 10 years ago when I started my business and they have survived through all three boys from toddlers to teenagers.
